How to become successful in your business

Success in business is something we all wish for, even though many cover it up or are even ashamed of their ambitions. But success is not only money and recognition of the environment, but also self-realization, which is important for every individual. Today, in a time of fierce competition, this universal human need seems achievable only for the chosen ones – as if neither creativity nor intelligence are a guarantee of progress.

But the truth is that the path to success in most cases requires a change of perspective – usually we are hampered by those things that we do not see or that we subconsciously refuse to see. There is no recipe for success and the advice of accomplished people can often be contradictory. But if you have a clear goal in front of you, those tips will crystallize into a clear guide. Well, let’s go.


Commitment and patience

This may sound like the biggest possible cliché, but, as with any cliché, there is a misinterpretation. Commitment and patience are the basis for self-confidence, without which you can never reach your goal. Defeats happen to everyone, but that doesn’t mean you just have to keep going in the same direction and wait patiently for things to get better on their own. The obstacles are not there to constantly break about them, but to learn how to overcome them by calmly thinking about them and modifying our plan.

Only then does persistence come on the scene – sometimes that plan will not succeed (or at least not to the end), so it needs to be further modified. So, commitment and patience are powerful weapons when we are ready to tackle the obstacles that are currently in front of us, without expecting that we will solve everything. There are times when we simply do not feel good in the workplace and only when we realize that it is our responsibility and not the influence of external factors do we have enough self-confidence to move on.


Not everything is in “mileage”

Most people make the big mistake of thinking that everything is in “mileage” – if we last long enough in a business, we will inevitably progress. As if there is some charted path that simply needs to be followed. But such reasoning will only contribute to our complete exhaustion even though we have stayed in place. We invest every free moment, do our best, give up sleep, and sink deeper and deeper. Many think that sleep can be easily compensated, but there are everyday conditions for healthy and productive sleep. If we end up sick, forgetful, deconcentrated, emaciated, moody and chronically tired, we can say goodbye to any chance of success.

Instead of rushing like headless flies along some “charted” path, we should follow our instincts that will lead us on the path that is right for us. External circumstances are important, but only so that we can consider the situation and our own possibilities in it. Then you need to go into the unknown, deviate from the planned path and take risks. Things will never go the way we want in the beginning, so our willingness to take risks is the main precondition for success. As Andre the Jew wrote in The Blacksmiths of Counterfeit Money: “One cannot discover new spaces if one does not have the courage to lose sight of the coast.”


Perfectionism is an obstacle

Many think that in order to be successful, one must be perfect. But the thing is, no one is. We have already mentioned that our mistakes are an opportunity to modify our plan and make progress, which is also true in the case of others. The constant search for perfection deprives us of the opportunity to learn and find solutions. Instead, it locks us into our exaggerated expectations from which there is no way out. Instead of trying to get to where we think we should be, we should allow ourselves to feel where our place is. Perfectionism always distances us from what we really are, and self-knowledge is not only a prerequisite for success, but also for happiness and other important things in life.

In addition, perfectionism negatively affects our environment, especially if we have a function in which we are responsible for the people below us. Instead of organizing, we limit ourselves to dryly issuing orders. We ignore other people’s ideas and present only our own, which reduces the efficiency of our associates as well as the potential number of solutions to a problem.


Communication and common interest

When a positive work atmosphere is mentioned, most people think of a comfortable work space, with comfortable chairs, preferably air-conditioned. While this is undoubtedly important, the core of a positive work atmosphere is in the common interest of all employees, which is in line with the interest of the firm. And the precondition for something like that is communication. We don’t just mean business communication – establishing closeness and mutual respect is equally important. The company is not one person, and one of the most important preconditions for success is teamwork. And the team is a group of people who wish each other good morning every morning, who know how to give a smile of support, who take care of each other’s wishes and interests. The success of each member is a fraction of the success of all, and there are no people who deserve less recognition than others. That’s why there are teams – so we can support each other.
